[POTD] You jelly?

Hi everyone! Happy Friday! This was actually yesterdays nail but I only got around posting it now. Such a failure. Nonetheless, here it is.

It's a yummy jelly sandwich! I used Essie a cut above squished between OPI don't touch my tutu to create a "suspended" glitter look. This is my first time doing a jelly sandwich and I'm quite happy with it.

What are you favourite jelly polishes?

Hi everyone!

Sorry! I know I haven't been posting for the past week/2 weeks and I have a perfectly acceptable reason for this! I've been in Cuba! Now that I'm back and super tanned, I am ready to post... starting tomorrow (:

Just want to share with you a picture from Cuba... I'll probably share more along the way but here's one for now.

We got to play with a baby dolphin! He's three years old and his name is Nemo. Oh and that's the boyfriend. I already told him that I want a dolphin for Christmas! Anyway, while I was gone, I got a ton of mail goodies that I'll be trying out the next few days and will be posting them up as well. But for now, I need sleep cause I'm back to work tomorrow *sad face* Hope everyone did well on their exams!

Glymm box review

Hope everyone had a pleasant week so far. I have a bit on time on my hands today so I am going to do a review on my first Glymm box.

First off, product list and how much the full sizes are, here’s a scan of the card that came with my box.

Here is what I received:
Lucia Soap No. 1 – 1 soap $2.19
Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine Fragrance – Doesn’t tell me the amount so let’s say 2.5mL so $5.00
Free your mane – Sulfate Free Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner – 7.5mL x 2 = 14mL $0.75
Mai Couture Social Gloss – Full size $28.00
NuMe - $100 gift card

Total: $135.94

My verdict: Not bad considering I paid $10. It’s nice that they threw in a “bonus” being the NuMe gift card – a company that sells professional styling tools & hair extensions. That’s great – but the problem is everything on that website is so expensive! The price for a hair curler is $135 and let me tell you guys, with shipping ($15) adds up to $150 minus gift card = $50. I won’t even pay that much for a hair curler so no, I won’t be using this card. If any of you guys want to check this website out go, click here. The code is: NUME100.

I haven’t tried any of their other products yet. Mainly because I don’t use lipgloss and soap dries out my skin like crazy! Haha, I sound like a diva. But let me assure, I am not! Anyway, I am disappointed. I don’t know why I had such high expectation. I will continue for another month and see how it goes.

Have you tried any of these products? Hope everyone is doing well! I can’t wait for the weekend!

***update*** I tried the shampoo & conditioner this morning and I love it! My hair is very soft and silky feeling. But would I pay that price for it? Probably not. I wish the sample size had more than just 7.5mL per package because I have VERY THICK hair and it's really long (down to my back) so yes, that sample wasn't enough for my massive mane haha

Konadlicious is having a massive giveaway! If you haven't checked it out yet... what are you waiting for!? Find her here and good luck!

Make-up monthly review box!

Right when I am about to start studying I hear some noise outside my house. Being the creeper that I am I peeked out my window and took a picture. * GASP * It’s the mailman and he has NAIL MAIL for me! There goes my motivation to study. Out the window!

So here it is, my second make-up monthly box. If you haven’t heard of make-up monthly, it’s like many of the beauty boxes on the market and you have 3 choices (nail club, cosmetic club or beauty care club) for $20 a month. If you want to see what I got the first month you can read about it here.

This month, I received 3 full size nail polish, 2 OPI and 1 Essie. I am quite happy with the Essie because I've been meaning to buy a new black but this just saved me the trip but the two OPI's are very generic. At first glance, I thought it was OPI Pedal Faster Suzi. I paid for a 3-month subscription so I will most likely not continue after my 3 months especially because the colours seems to be so dated.

OPI Dozen Rosas and All That Razz-Berry and Essie Licorice

Anyway, must study. Oh, I also got my first Glymm box today but I will do a review on it after my finals. Do you sign up for any beauty boxes? If so, which one and do you like it?

Thanks for reading!

How to keep your nail polish fresh!

It’s frustrating when you spend so much money on little bottles of goodness and they gunk up on you or they’re sealed shut after a few use. Here are a few tips and tricks on how to keep your nail polish fresh for longer!

1. I know that many of us has heard that if our nail polish gunk up, just drip a few drops of nail polish remover in it and voila! It’s gunk free! I’m not going to lie, I’ve done this many times but it wasn’t until a few months ago that I learned that, that is a complete no-no! Adding nail polish remover in your polishes will decrease the bond between the polish and your nail. What you should to is purchase nail polish thinner and that should do the trick.

2. Store your nail polishes away from direct heat and sunlight. When polish is exposed to heat, they thicken and become difficult to apply. An optimal location is somewhere cool and dry.

3. How about storing them in the fridge? I’ve heard people storing it in the fridge. I personally do not do it, but keep in mind that when you’re ready to use it, rub it between your palms so it will be easier to apply.

4. Do not shake your nail polish before you apply it! This cause air bubbles in the polish and once you put it on, a little bugger might end up on your perfect mani! Instead, roll it gently between your palms. If you must shake it (because it’s thick or you need to mix the colours), do it then let it sit for 30 minutes so all the air bubble can rise.

5. Cap stuck on? Take a cup (preferably ones that you don’t/won’t use anymore) and pour enough nail polish remover so that when you put your nail polish upside down in it, it will cover the cap. The dried up nail polish making your cap stuck on should loosen up.

6. Want to avoid your cap being stuck on in the future? Apply some petroleum jelly around the neck of the bottle. This will prevent it from drying and caking up on the neck/cap.

7. Nail polishes usually last around 2 years. So be realistic and toss the old ones out. I’ve tried salvaging old ones but end up making a big mess!

I hope this helps! Are there any tips and tricks you guys use? Do share :D !! Thanks for reading!

Hope everyone enjoyed their Easter weekend and is well rested for another week starting tomorrow and jealous of those who have it off! Nothing much on my end. Broke a few nails so I only have tree stumps now and am too embarrassed to share those with you :( but what I do want to share is this new (well, I don't know if it's considered new) fad that's going around about SpectraFlair. It originated from the auto industry - a pigment that they use to spray the cars? I'm not sure but what you can do once you get your hands on them is add them to any top coat or polishes and BAM you get holographic nail polish! I am having trouble locating this and am wondering if any of you lovely readers have heard of them/know where to buy them and point me to the right direction? That would be much appreciate! In the meantime, I am working on growing my nails out (very slow and painful process) I had to trim them all down and they're so short! I'm testing out Barielle Natural Health Nails product and see how that goes. Anyone tried it before? Anyway, wish me luck! <3

Julep Maven's April Box

Hey guys! Hope everyone is doing well! It's Friday and I have the day off today! :3 So I am taking this time to review my Julep Maven's April Box! First off, here is what I received in my box and their description from Julep:

Best Pedi Cream Ever! ($22) Exfoliates with alpha hydroxy acids, hydrates with shea butter and coconut oil, nourishes with vitamin E. Apply nightly for noticeable results in just 1 to 2 uses.

Alyson Nail Polish ($14) Almond creme featured on all the runways for spring. The new neutral.
Molly Nail Polish ($14) Classic red, updated. Looks great on all skin tones.
Toes separators and a few chocolate eggs

My take on this box: I haven't tried the "Best Pedi Cream Ever!" but I am definitely looking forward to that. Summer is around the corner and flip flop season is coming so must have cute soft feet. As for the polishes, this is a very nice nude that does compliment my skin tone rather making it look like I have lobster hands! And the red is simply amazing! I've been looking for a bold red polish with no luck. I am happy with my box this month. If you guys are interested in trying out Julep Maven, consider using my referral link here and use the code "Color2012" and get your first month for $0.01! Forgot to mention one thing, I am supposed to receive a bag along with my box but they forgot so it'll be coming a bit later. I hope I could put that to good use! Thanks for reading and happy weekend!

[POTD] Essie - On the Edge

I love Essie. I love Essie colours. I love their cute bottles. BUT what I don't love about them is putting on 3 coats to reach some what opacity! Either way, I'll still be buying their nail polishes cause I love them. I'm such a sucker. This is a gorgeous dark grey packed with shimmery silver flecks. Reminds me of tungsten for some reason... It goes on nicely but I do have some bald patches and when I hold my hand up to the sun/light I can see streaks (which makes me angry lol). Nonetheless, I love this colour. Here's a shot in the sun.

What are your favourite Essie colours?

Julep St. Patrick's Day Box Review!

Good evening everyone! I just finished my last lab & lab report for the semester and what better way to end it with a review! I finally received my Julep St. Patrick’s Day mystery box today and thought I’d share with everyone. So I paid $20 for this box with a coupon – without the coupon would have been I think $60 and Julep said you can receive any where from $60 - $200 worth of goodies. Correct me if I’m wrong! So first off, I’ll start by introducing all the products in the box and how much they retail for (I want to make sure I get what I paid for!)

Beautiful Hands To-Go $22 - Glycolic Hand Scrub 30mL/1 fl oz - Age Defying Hand Brightener 30mL/1 fl oz Julep Facial for Hands is based on our very popular Julep Girlfriend’s Glycolic Manicure. Potent glycolic acid combined with apricot seeds provides powerful double exfoliation that leaves your hands feeling noticeably softer and looking younger after just one use. Naturally scented with orange oil for a refreshing aromatherapy boost with each use. Julep Glow On Age Defying Hand Brightener visibly minimizes the appearance of fine lines and age spots on your hands, adding radiant glow and evening skin tone. Contains rare African plant extracts that are clinically proven to block melanin production and reduce hyper-pigmentation and micro light diffusing technology gives hands an instant glowing and luminescent appearance. Advanced emulsion system imparts water-resistant, non-greasy softness.
Julep Base Coat $14 The foundation to a long-lasting manicure. Protects nails from yellowing and staining caused by dark nail color. Professional quality “4-free” nail polish formulation, developed without carcinogens such as formaldehyde or formaldehyde resin, toluene and DBP.
Julep Crystal Nail File $6 A fine grit glass nail file that is gentle on your nails. Remember to file in only one direction to minimize fraying that can damage nails.

Melissa $14 Sheer opalescent shimmer adds a soft glow when used alone and a high-fashion holographic effect when used over another colour.
Hayden $14 Neon peach. Professional quality “4-free” nail polish formulation, developed without carcinogens such as formaldehyde or formaldehyde resin, toluene and DBP.
Sofia $14 Sheer spring green with a flash of aqua sparkle glitter.  Here’s a capture of the colours on my nails. I know two of them are more for topcoat but I thought I’d let you guys see how to looks. Sofia actually seems like a matte glitter but it doesn’t say on the website.

Putting all the numbers together, I get $84 worth of Julep products. Do I think it’s worth it? Meh. I honestly do not see why their polishes are $14 for a measly 0.8mL. I was excited for this but I have to admit, I am disappointed. I am about to cancel my Julep subscription forever unless someone can persuade me otherwise. What do you guys think? Was it worth it? Should I cancel?

Essie 2012 Wedding Collection and OPI Germany

Thanks to Sugarmitten, Essie will be launching a new collection sometime in April and I am super excited for it! I really like soft pastel colours so this is exactly what I've been looking for! Unfortunately, I am not a big fan of Essie because they're too sheer. I feel like I have to pour half to bottle on my fingers to get some coverage. What's wrong with me?

Another thanks to Giselle from Two Lacquered Girls, OPI announced its new Germany collection! So many new polishes! Which launch will you be looking forward to? Any pointers for my Essie problem?

[POTD] Boom! So in yo face!

Afternoon all. Hope all is well. It's freezing today! I was hoping for some warm weather but I guess that's not happening. Anyway, simple design with Essie Pearlfection as base, China Glaze (I forgot the name) but it's a neon orange super bright and loud topped with Color Club - worth the risqué.
Hope everyone is enjoying their Monday so far. I has TWO MORE WEEKS of class left then exams and FINALLY off for the summer. Super stoked to go CUBA! What are you plans this summer? Have you been Cuba or anywhere south? Let me know whasss good!

Make-Up Monthly Review Box

I don’t know how many of you heard of Makeup Monthly, but it’s similar to Julep Maven, Topbox, Glymm etc. etc. and I decided to give it a try. Just received my box this month and want to share it with you guys. First off, Makeup Monthly goes by every 3, 6 or 12 months – not monthly. The price for 3 months is $55, 6 months for $110 and 12 months for $220. I opted for 3 months just to see how I like it. They also have 3 options for you to choose from, either nail club, cosmetic club or beauty care club. I naturally choose the nail club option.

With my first box, I received 3 new Essie nail polishes (Café forgot, cute as a button and blanc) very standard colours in my opinion – nothing special and a set of toe dividers. I don’t know how I feel about this box right now because the colours seem to be so out-of-date and I am disappointed with my box. The Essie blanc looked like its been tampered with so I am a bit sketchy about this one. Also, I didn’t like the fact that I had to choose 3, 6, or 12 months right off the bat not knowing if I’ll like it or not and having no options to cancel like the other boxes. I guess I’ll have to wait until next month’s box comes and decide if I want to renew another 3 months.

Café forgot is a nude polish with fine glitter (right) Cute as a button is a pink coral (centre) Blanc is a standard white polish (left)   What do you guys think? Would you sign up for Makeup Monthly? Or are you already signed up for something better? Thanks for stopping by!
